Tower Stewards will staff the Fire Tower on weekends and holidays during the season that runs from Memorial Day to Indigenous People’s Day – This year it will run from tower opening, expected to be in June, through the October holiday weekend. We aim to have stewards at the tower from 10:00 am to 4:00 PM but that is weather and visitor volume dependent.
Tower Stewards will open the cab to the tower so that visitors can so that visitors can get a sense of how the tower was used for fire-spotting. According to the interests of visitors, Tower Stewards will talk about the history of the Fire Towers and this tower in particular, the local area, and places to go after hiking. The Friends of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower will be providing stewards with information on all the topics we think will be helpful.
Tower Stewards can do minor trail work like clearing small branches on the trail and at the site, clean up any garbage that may have been left, and report any problems to the Friends.
Tower Stewards will receive an official steward shirt and a tower steward handbook.
Tower Steward Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Volunteers should be able to be at the summit from 10 am to 4 pm. Hours can be flexible depending on weather and the number of hikers visiting on a particular day
- It is hoped that each volunteer can commit to 2 days per season, though those two days need not be the same weekend. Stewards are welcome to have a friend or companion for their shift.
- Attend required training – May 11th in Delhi* and a tower visit once construction is complete.
